Aboul Gheit supports Arab-Kurdish relations during his visit to Iraqi Kurdistan



Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, visited Erbil today, Sunday, during which he met with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and Massoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, as part of a two-day visit to Iraq, during which he met with all leaders Al-Iraqiya in Baghdad.

 

An official source in the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States stated that the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, received Ahmed Aboul Gheit and his accompanying delegation, as the two sides held talks on ways to support Arab relations with the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

 

The source quoted Aboul Gheit as confirming during the interview the depth of relations between the Arab and Kurdish components, and their importance for the stability of Iraq, adding that the Arab League is open to Iraq with all its components, and considers the harmony of relations between these components an added asset to the strength of the Iraqi state.

 

The source added that Masoud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, had received Ahmad Abul Gheit, as their talks dealt with the situation in Iraq and the region.

 

During the interview, Aboul Gheit was keen to emphasize the great appreciation he holds for Barzani's historical leadership and his continued role in preserving the stability of the relationship between the region and the federal government in Baghdad.
