Study: Combining C virus drugs with remdesivir achieves 10 times the effectiveness of fighting Corona

TheHealthSite revealed that the C virus drugs that are combined with the remdesivir drug increase the drug’s effectiveness in fighting the Corona virus, explaining that the hepatitis C medicines that were combined with the remdesivir drug are simeprevir, Vaniprevir, paritaprevir and Grazoprevir, and these medicines are taken orally while remdesivir is given. Intravenously.

The site said the demand for the anti-viral drug Remdesivir is increasing amid the second wave of Corona in India, and the drug shortage.

And the Indian Ministry of Health clarified that the remdesivir drug is not a life-saving drug, and warned that it should not be used indiscriminately for Corona patients.

Studies have shown that the drug did not reduce death rates in patients with Corona virus, but with no proven drug for Corona virus available at the present time, doctors are increasingly prescribing it in India.

Randeep Jolleria, director of the India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said the drug is "not a magic bullet" and does not reduce the mortality rate, but added that we may use it because we do not have a good anti-viral drug, and warned that Remdesivir has a limited role and that it should be used. Very carefully.

The site indicated that in a new study, US researchers found that the combination of remdesivir and drugs for the hepatitis C virus shows strong efficacy against corona.

The research team, which included scientists from the Icahn College of Medicine in Mount Sinai, and the University of Texas, said, if confirmed through additional research and clinical trials, this discovery could provide a new antiviral to combat Corona, explaining that the combination treatment is more effective in inhibiting the Corona virus.

The site added that remdesivir was effective in treating Ebola patients in the beginning, and it was seen as a good treatment for Corona virus, but studies did not find any significant benefits for its use, but remdesivir is still used to treat Corona patients even in the United States.

The site confirmed that researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute had previously identified a "striking similarity" between the protease structures, or enzymes necessary for the reproduction of the Corona virus and the C virus.

Because of this similarity, the site said, experts believed that existing drugs that bind to and block the hepatitis C protein will have the same effect against corona, and based on this hypothesis, the American research team conducted studies of protein binding and virus replication on corona using remdesivir, and hepatitis C drugs, and they found that 4 of the C virus drugs also inhibit the coronavirus protease, as it increased the effectiveness of the drug remdesivir 10 times.
