The Palestinian Foreign Minister calls for pressure on Israel not to obstruct the elections in Jerusalem

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, called on Thursday, his Irish counterpart, Simon Coveney, to continue his efforts and pressure Israel not to obstruct the holding of elections in all the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

According to the Palestinian News Agency, Al-Maliki gave his Irish counterpart, during a phone call, an explanation on the importance of holding elections for the Palestinian leadership and people, as well as the importance of holding them in East Jerusalem, similar to the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory.

He continued, "The test before us is the legal status of Jerusalem, which no one can bargain with, within international law as part of the occupied land and the eternal capital of the State of Palestine," stressing that the decision to hold the elections is an irreversible Palestinian decision, and consistent with the Palestinian consensus on the importance of holding it and its necessity. This time, but on the condition that it occurs in East Jerusalem.
