The President of Palestine affirms the need for an urgent start on a political track under the supervision of the International Quartet

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas "Abu Mazen" stressed the need to move after fixing the calm to the stage of an urgent start of a political path under the supervision of the International Quartet that ends the Israeli occupation and leads to the Palestinian people gaining their freedom and independence in a sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of international legitimacy decisions.

This came, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), during a meeting with the Palestinian President today, Tuesday, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

The Palestinian President stressed the need for intensified efforts to rebuild what the occupation has destroyed in the Gaza Strip, and the necessity for the truce that is also being worked on to include stopping the attacks and incursions of extremist settlers supported by the Israeli occupation forces on the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque and the West Bank and respecting the historical situation, including The Hashemite Guardianship of the Islamic and Christian Holy Places in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

Abu Mazen affirmed the Palestinian leadership’s readiness to continue the Palestinian dialogue to form a national unity government that would be committed to international legitimacy.

The Palestinian President expressed his country's appreciation, the president, the government and the people, for Jordan's stances, led by King Abdullah II, in support of the Palestinian cause at all levels, and the price of the efforts made by Jordan in cooperation with the Arab brothers, the American administration and the concerned parties to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people.

During the meeting, the Palestinian President reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the contacts that the Palestinian leadership is making with the United States, the United Nations, and the relevant Arab and international parties to stop the Israeli aggression.

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that this visit was commissioned by Jordanian King Abdullah II; To deliver a message of support and permanent readiness to coordinate efforts to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the holy sites, to confirm and support the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, including Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan, and to stop the attacks of extremist settler groups in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

He pointed to the importance of achieving the calm, to include the West Bank and Gaza, and work on reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, and to expedite the transition to a political solution in accordance with international legitimacy decisions that would lead to an end to the occupation and the embodiment of the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
