British police evacuate a hotel next to the site of the G7 summit after a "false warning"

British police securing the Group of Seven summit in southwest England evacuated a hotel in Falmouth after reports of a suspicious package arrived early Thursday morning, which police later described as "fake".

According to the Emirati Vision website, US President Joe Biden arrived in Britain yesterday evening, Wednesday, and is staying at a seaside resort in Carbis Bay, about 25 miles from Falmouth, where most of the media teams covering the summit reside.

Authorities have tightened security around the Group of Seven summit, the first virtual meeting of leaders of major industrialized nations in nearly two years.

"We currently believe this was a false alert and have opened a criminal investigation," Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Police closed roads and coastal paths to Carbis Bay, the small coastal resort hosting the summit, and erected iron fences and other restrictions at the site.
