US air strikes on Iranian targets in Syria..and Iran's Foreign Ministry: America is on the wrong path

The United States announced that it had launched air strikes targeting Iranian targets in Syria and Iraq, noting that these strikes were authorized by President Joe Biden in the wake of the ongoing attacks on American interests.

According to the France 24 website, the Iraqi Popular Mobilization announced in a statement on Monday the killing of a number of its fighters in strikes carried out by the United States, which the crowd said "targeted the headquarters of the 14th Brigade" on the Iraqi-Syrian border.

"At the direction of President Biden, US military forces earlier this evening conducted precision defensive air strikes against Iranian targets in Syria and Iraq," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.

"Given the continuing series of attacks, the President has directed further military action to disrupt and deter such attacks," Kirby said.

These air strikes are the second such US attack on Iranian targets in Syria since President Joe Biden took office.

A Pentagon spokesman said the strikes constituted "a necessary, appropriate and deliberate action to reduce the risk of escalation, but also to send a clear and unambiguous message of deterrence."

For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on the bombing that "raising tension in the region is not in the interest of the United States of America," stressing that "the United States is going in the wrong way, and that the strikes in Syria and Iraq are part of its arrogance."
