Head of "UNITAMS" stresses the importance of Sudan's accession to the Heavily Indebted Countries Initiative


 The head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Support Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Peretz, stressed the importance of the International Monetary Fund's approval of Sudan's accession to the Heavily Indebted Countries Initiative (HIPC) and that it successfully reached the point of "decision making", as this step would lead to debt relief.


Peretz said, in a post on his Twitter account, that this decision opens areas of cooperation with development and financing partners to support comprehensive development, combat poverty, and increase investments.


The Prime Minister of Sudan, Dr. Abdullah Hamdok, announced that his country had reached the “decision point” regarding the Heavily Indebted Countries Initiative “HIPC”, pointing out that upon reaching the so-called “completion point”, Sudan would obtain a final debt relief estimated at about 50 billion. dollars, out of a total of about 60 billion.
